The foundation, together with its partner the Women on Farms Project, aims at addressing gender based violence in farming communities by assisting women on farms to claim their legal rights.

The Women on Farms Project (WFP) is an independent, non-governmental organisation that has been involved in human and labour rights issues among farm workers since 1992.

The programme goal is to increase the awareness of women on farms regarding their legal rights and to give them the confidence to claim these rights. To achieve this objective it is also important to develop women’s leadership capacity through leadership training

The foundation and its partner concentrate their efforts around three activities:

  • Equipping farm women with knowledge and confidence about their land and housing rights, allowing them to, among other things, secure tenure
  • Create awareness of the social and economic disadvantages of farm workers in the Western Cape region, so that decision-makers and civil society can proactively get involved
  • Getting farm women to play a leading role in grass roots community land rights forums, so that they are able to influence decisions in favour of women.
